Doug, a one-time pop star, decides to have another
go at being a success in the music industry,
as the songwriter and manager to a manufactured
band. The lead singer is extremely talented but
finds the pressure difficult to deal with and
doubts his ability to deliver the goods. Doug's
arranges a gig and invites his last remaining
decent industry contact, but on the night of
the gig the guitarist, Jeff, goes missing. Doug's
anxiety turns to relief when Jeff walks through
the door with his producer friend, but all does
not go to plan.
There is much rivalry on the local band scene
and when Doug first arrives in town and begins
to hold talent nights at the pub, the bands
are shocked to discover that his ulterior
motive is to steal individuals for his own
group. They retaliate by spiking Jeff's drink
just before the first major gig, and dumping
him in the surrounding countryside. Jeff
wakes up disoriented and stumbles upon a
group of people dressed as bunnies. At first,
he thinks that he is hallucinating, but then
realises the 'bunnies' are part of a major
fetish convention. He accidentally almost
gets run over by one of the bunnies who turns
out to be Doug's producer friend, who had
only agreed to come out to 'the sticks' because
he could tie it in with his convention.
As the gig gets under way, Doug feels relieved
at being saved at the 11th hour. Unknown
to everyone, there is a dead body stowed
away in a cupboard by the stage. The two
pub bouncers are small time crooks and have
recently taken part in a bank robbery. Unfortunately,
the old lady they took as a hostage died
of a heart attack in the boot of their car
and being incredibly grey-matter challenged,
they hid her in the pub.
The story ends with news reports, which catapult
the band to instant fame because of the
murder tie-in.
